Rain and strong winds to usher in lower temperatures across Korea

Temperatures are projected to drop nationwide this week, following autumn rain on Tuesday.

The rain is expected to continue until early Wednesday, with regions such as Gangwon, North Chungcheong, eastern North Jeolla and Gyeongsang possibly experiencing rain throughout the morning. Downpours of 20 to 30 millimeters (0.79 to 1.18 inches) per hour are also forecast for the southern coast of South Jeolla, Gyeongsang and Jeju.

As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, temperatures in major cities were as follows: 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit) in Seoul, 15.5 degrees in Incheon, 15.4 degrees in Daejeon, 17.3 degrees in Gwangju, 15.8 degrees in Daegu, 18.9 degrees in Ulsan and 19.4 degrees in Busan.

After maintaining typical seasonal levels, temperatures will drop as cold air moves south following the rain.

While nighttime temperatures will remain higher than average into Wednesday morning, daytime highs will decrease by 2 to 5 degrees compared to the previous day, with central regions only reaching around 15 degrees.

As temperatures fall, winds are expected to strengthen.

Starting Tuesday night, winds exceeding 70 kilometers (43.5 miles) per hour are expected along the western coast, beginning in Gangwon’s coastal areas, as well as in the northern and coastal regions of Gyeongsang and Jeju's mountainous areas early Wednesday. In other regions, gusts ranging from 55 to 70 kilometers per hour are also anticipated on Wednesday.
