Korean and Japanese leaders to speak at Stanford after APEC: Yoon’s office

Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida are scheduled to speak at Stanford University in California on Nov. 17 on the sidelines of an APEC leaders' summit, Yoon's office announced Friday.

The two leaders are expected to take part in a roundtable discussion on the topic of Korea-Japan relations and trilateral cooperation with the United States in the high-tech sector that afternoon, the last day of Yoon's California visit.

Yoon is scheduled to make a three-day visit to San Francisco from Wednesday to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, or APEC, summit in San Francisco.

The two leaders' visit to Stanford was earlier reported by Japan's Kyodo News on Wednesday, citing several Japanese government sources.

Yoon to wrap up diplomatic year with visits to U.S., Britain, France and the Netherlands

Yoon will also be the first Korean president in 10 years to speak at the APEC CEO Summit.

Yoon and Kishida have been engaging in a flurry of diplomacy, meeting nearly every month since their bilateral summit in Tokyo in March led to a breakthrough in bilateral relations, which have been frayed due to ongoing historical disputes and a trade spat.

The two leaders also took part in a trilateral summit with U.S. President Joe Biden at Camp David retreat in Maryland in August.
