Korean boxer Jeong Jae-min took bronze after losing 5-0 to Boltaev Davlat of Tajikistan in the men’s 80-92 kilogram semifinals at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Sunday, claiming Korea’s first medal in boxing this year.

In Asian Games boxing, losers in the semifinals win an automatic bronze.

The bout took place at Hangzhou Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China and Jeong failed to dominate, with only one judge giving him more points in the first round.

He allowed more attacks during the second and all five judges gave Davlat more points. The third round went nearly the same with all the judges giving the Tajik boxer more points again to end the bout with a 5-0 loss for Jeong.

Jeong’s bronze wrapped up the boxing schedule on Sunday and the remaining bouts will continue through Thursday.

Boxing has been a sport at every Asian Games since the 1954 Asiad and Korea has secured the most medals with 115 — 59 gold, 25 silver and 31 bronze.

In the 2018 Asiad, however, Oh Yeon-ji’s gold medal was Korea’s only medal at the tournament.
