People gather to see a shark in a waterway at the North Port Waterfront Park in Dong District, Busan, on Sept. 20.

A shark measuring 3 to 4 meters (9 feet, 10 inches to 13 feet, 1 inch) was first spotted in the waterway on Friday, and another was reported on Saturday, both believed to be copper sharks.

The Korea Coast Guard is monitoring the situation and waiting for the shark to leave the waterway on its own. Authorities stopped an operation to guide it out to open waters after the National Institute of Fisheries Science advised that aggressively driving it away could make it more likely to attack.
