Yuryeong, the itinerant Seoul gallery that takes a new building as its venue for each show, opened its second exhibition “Conditions” in Cheongdam-dong, southern Seoul, on Friday.

The show is timed to Frieze Seoul 2026, with artists based in Korea and abroad showing more than 160 works in painting, printmaking, sculpture and installation. Five are being presented at a commercial gallery for the first time.

Gender and sexual orientation, labor and livelihood, education and environment, family and religion, taste and class all intersect throughout the exhibition rather than sitting apart, shaping the artists' disposition as much as their works themselves.

“With this exhibition we wanted to look at the conditions that make up a person and shape their work, rather than explain any one identity,” said Yee Sowa, who curated the show. “I wanted to show the landscape that emerges when artists who started from different conditions meet in a single space.”

The participants include an artist who returned to Korea after years abroad, one who keeps a studio practice alongside manual labor for a living, and one who moves between Korea and the United States. Their works are not held together by a shared form or aesthetic, according to the gallery.

The artists are Kim Dae-you, Gim Soo-yoon, Hansol Kim, Ha Yu-seong, Yun Tae-hyeung, Lee Jae-seok, Lim Il-kook, Joo Han-byul and Claire Chey, all young artists showing their work in the alternative art space.

The venue continues Yuryeong’s practice of working without a fixed space, taking on the gallery’s name from the Korean word for “ghost.” Its first exhibition, “First Body,” converted a model house left empty once its units sold; the second venue in Cheongdam-dong, in the basement of the Aiden by Best Western Cheongdam hotel, becomes the second body — site treated as one more condition on the work.

On Sept. 2, during Cheongdam Night as part of Frieze Seoul, the gallery will co-host “Yuryeong Night Out with Lazy Mike” with the Russian gallery Lazy Mike.

“Conditions” runs until Sept. 18. Admission is free.
