Singer Ivy will perform on Broadway as Roxie Hart in the musical “Chicago” starting in August, the Korean production of the musical said Wednesday.

“Ivy received an audition offer from a Broadway production last year and, after months of rigorous preparation, finally earned a place on the Broadway stage,” the musical's Korean production team, Seensee Company, said.

Ivy portrayed the role in the musical’s Korean productions from 2012 to 2024, according to Seensee Company. The singer has notched nearly 600 performances as Roxie in that time.

“It is both an honor and a joy to make my Broadway debut as Roxie Hart, my first leading role and the character I love most,” Ivy said in a press release.

“Over the past year, I went through three rounds of video auditions and a long period of waiting. That makes this opportunity all the more meaningful, and I also feel a profound sense of responsibility. I’ll do my best to represent Korea proudly.”

Ivy has been intensively working on her English dialogue delivery and pronunciation in preparation for her Broadway debut, according to Seensee Company.

The singer’s Broadway shows will begin on Aug. 17 and run through Sept. 6 at the Ambassador Theatre in New York City.

Ivy debuted in 2005 with the album “My Sweet and Free Day” and released hit songs such as “Sonata of Temptation” (2007) and “If you’re gonna be like this” (2007).

She began her musical theater career in 2010 with "Kiss Me, Kate." Since then, she has established herself as one of Korea's leading musical performers, appearing in major productions including "Chicago," "Aida" and "Moulin Rouge!"
