Sahmyook University is launching an open major program for international students in the second semester of this year.

The new program will allow international students to enroll without declaring a major in their first year. Instead, international students on this track will take basic adaptation and language courses first before choosing a major in their second year student year.

According to the university, the program will combine these courses with social adaptation programs, including history and cultural experiences and major exploration seminars. Personalized guidance and in-depth academic counseling will also be provided.

After completing their first year, students can choose their language track and major.

Students who choose the Korean track will be allowed to pick any major taught in Korean as long as they meet the language proficiency requirements for their desired major.

Students in the English track can choose from six departments currently offering English-track programs, including AI Convergence, Global Korean Studies, Integrative Biotechnology, Aviation Tourism and Foreign Language, and Early Childhood Education.

Sahmyook University said it aims to reach 1,000 international students this year and attract 2,000 next year through the new program. The university currently has around 700 international students from 42 countries.
