Portuguese Ambassador to Korea Susana Vaz Patto on Wednesday stressed the “strengthening ties” between Portugal and Korea and underlined how the Portuguese community is expanding here.

“Our community is growing and is integrating into Korean society,” Vaz Patto said at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul in central Seoul at a reception commemorating the National Day of Portugal and the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The National Day of Portugal, celebrated annually on June 10, is a national holiday honoring the country and its history.

“In the last years, one of the most exciting stages in the lives of these families has been witnessed in the consular section of the Embassy through marriage and then birth registrations, and that is a great testimony to the strengthening ties between Portugal and Korea,” Vaz Patto said. “This growth in the local Portuguese community, especially among young, qualified professionals, mirrors the increasing cultural and economic exchanges between our two nations, from tech partnerships to a shared love for gastronomy and the arts.”
