Peru showcases Pisco in Seoul at embassy garden party

Peru’s ambassador and importers introduced Pisco’s heritage, production and distinctive distillation process.

Pisco flowed at the Peruvian ambassador's residence in Seoul on Thursday evening as the Embassy of Peru in Korea hosted a "Pisco Garden Party," bringing the South American nation's signature grape brandy to guests.

Ambassador Paul Duclos of Peru to Korea welcomed guests by framing Pisco as "the most authentic and diplomatic expression of our national identity," describing the spirit as one that "embodies centuries of history, tradition and cultural heritage."

Duclos told the Korea JoongAng Daily that Pisco's premium quality stems from a distinctive distillation process.

"We don't use the skin or the seed, just the meat," he said, adding that the method sets it apart from other spirits that distill the entire fruit.

A personal display of Peruvian Ambassador to Korea Paul Duclos' own Pisco collection, which features bottles dedicated to his family, university, the national football team and historic sites like Machu Picchu.

Domestic importers Opik and Essential F&B also presented at the event, walking guests through Pisco's history and production.
