Korea's personal pension savings grew almost 11 percent in 2025 amid increased interest in postretirement life and a stock market rally, data showed on Thursday.

The country's personal pension savings reserves came to 198 trillion won ($130.2 billion) last year, up 10.8 percent from the previous year's 178.9 trillion won, according to data from the Financial Services Commission (FSC).

The rise came as older adults increasingly opened accounts for pension products last year.

The number of subscriptions to pension products among those in their 20s and 30s jumped 13.8 percent on year in 2025. The number for those in their 40s and 50s rose 6.6 percent over the same period.

The total subscribers of pension savings stood at 8.4 million last year, up 10 percent from a year earlier, according to the financial regulator.

The return on pension savings stood at 10.6 percent last year, sharply up from 3.7 percent a year earlier, the data showed.

The 2025 gain was also far higher than the accumulated return rate of 5.5 percent, according to the FSC.

Last year, the Kospi rallied more than 75 percent on the back of an AI-led rally.
