Around 100,000 cases of leaked personal information, such as names, emails and phone numbers, are presumed to have occurred at 16 financial institutions so far in a recent series of hacking incidents, the financial regulator said on Wednesday.

Early this month, several financial firms, including KB Kookmin Bank, Shinhan Bank and others, suffered back-to-back leaks of customer information and other data in hackings.

The Financial Services Commission (FSC) said that the affected institutions are examining whether more data breaches took place.

The FSC said that bank account numbers, credit card numbers and other sensitive information were not leaked.
