Business leaders and government officials from Korea and France on Wednesday called for stronger bilateral ties at a reception commemorating the 40th anniversary of the French Korean Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) and the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Business, diplomatic and parliamentary figures attended the event at the National Assembly's Sarangjae Hall in Yeouido, western Seoul.
“This year 2026 marks both the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Korea and France and the 40th anniversary of the FKCCI in Korea, making it a year of profound symbolic significance,” said FKCCI Chairman David-Pierre Jalicon. “In this historic year, the FKCCI will further strengthen its role as a leading institution for bilateral economic cooperation. We will also continue to support the sustainable growth of French companies in Korea and enhance France’s economic and cultural presence in the country.”
French Ambassador to Korea Philippe Bertoux also attended the reception and stressed the significance of bilateral ties between the two nations.

“Trust and cooperation have allowed us to weave even closer ties between France and Korea,” Bertoux said. “This anniversary year is an opportunity to recall that despite our geographical distance, our two nations share common values and a vision resolutely to turn toward the future."
From the Korean side, People Power Party Rep. Na Kyung-won, a member of the Korea-France Parliamentary Friendship Group, vowed to reinforce both countries’ strengths through parliamentary efforts.
“Korea is highly dynamic, while France is exceptionally creative,” said Na. “Korea has achieved remarkable technological advancement, while France is distinguished by its strong cultural heritage. I believe the strengths of our two countries are different, and that these differences can become strengths for each other. The National Assembly will work to help both countries make the most of those strengths.”
