Carbon dioxide leak forces trains to skip Anam Station on line No. 6

Passengers evacuated and trains skipped Anam Station near Korea University after a carbon dioxide leak, before normal service resumed.

Passengers were evacuated and trains bypassed Anam Station of line 6 on Tuesday after carbon dioxide leaked within the station grounds.

"Carbon dioxide leaked on the basement floor of the subway line 6 Anam Station, evacuate from the station and use alternative routes," the safety alert sent by Seoul Metro at 10:52 a.m. reads. 

"Trains are passing through Anam Station in both directions without stopping." 

The leak was contained and trains passed through normally as of 11:16 a.m., according to another safety alert.

The gas leaked from an electrical substation at around 9:41 a.m. during work by an outside contractor, according to fire authorities.

Firefighters and Seoul Metro responded to the report and immediately secured the location as a precaution.

Anam Station, in central Seoul, is located near Korea University.
