A body believed to be that of a young boy has been found floating off the coast of Seogeom Island, west of Incheon, according to the police on Thursday.

The Korea Coast Guard recovered the body after the Incheon Ganghwa Police Station received a citizen report around noon on Saturday.

An autopsy has been requested from the National Forensic Service.

The body was badly decomposed when it was found. Authorities estimate the child was about 110 to 120 centimeters (3 feet 7 inches to 3 feet 11 inches) tall.

"A national security-related offense has not been identified at this point," a coast guard official said. "We cannot disclose further details because the investigation is ongoing."
