Mark started his singing career in boy band NCT in April 2016 when he was featured on the debut digital single “The 7th Sense,” as part of subunit NCT U. NCT consisted of 23 members back then.

He was also part of NCT’s other subunits — NCT 127, NCT DREAM and supergroup SuperM. Before his debut, SM Entertainment revealed him back in 2013 as one of its SM Rookies, which was the agency’s pre-debut training team to promote its upcoming artists.

The boy group member mainly rapped on NCT’s songs and had also competed in Mnet’s rap competition show for high schoolers “High School Rapper,” (2017-21) in 2017.

He ranked seventh in the final round. In February 2022, Mark released his first solo single “Child,” and then released his second single "Golden Hour," on April 7, 2023.

In April 2026, he announced his departure from SM Entertainment as well as NCT subunits to pursue his solo career.

Under his new self-established agency Upper Room, Mark opened a new channel on Weverse, a global fan platform, under his full name Mark Lee on July 8, kicking off his solo activities.
