Korean auteur Lee Chang-dong’s upcoming Netflix film “Possible Love” will hit domestic theaters on Sept. 23 before being released by the streamer in November, the platform said Tuesday.

The Netflix production is Lee’s first directorial project in eight years since “Burning” (2018).

The new film follows a laid-off worker and his wife, played by Sul Kyung-gu and Jeon Do-yeon, who meet a wealthy documentary director and his wife, played by Zo In-sung and Cho Yeo-jeong, when a documentary shoot brings the two couples together. Each of them ends up facing a desire they had kept hidden.

The film will be released on Netflix on Nov. 6.

“Possible Love” is also set to compete for the Golden Lion at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival in September.

The Venice invitation marks Lee’s return to the festival’s competition after 24 years. The director took home five awards at the 59th Venice Film Festival in 2002 for his film “Oasis” (2002), including the Silver Lion for Best Director.

The film has also been recently invited to the Toronto International Film Festival's Special Presentations program in September.
