The girl group izna refuses to move to a rhythm set by others. Instead, the sextet is setting its own tempo with its latest lead single, “Metronome” — the most unapologetically izna-coded song yet, according to the members.
“It’s the song that fits izna the most, I thought,” member Choi Jung-eun said during a press showcase for the girl group’s latest EP, “Set the Tempo,” held at Blue Square Woori WON Banking Hall in central Seoul on Monday. “Our unique vocal tones and personalities were woven into the song so well.”
Formed through the Mnet survival show “I-Land 2: N/a” (2024), izna debuted in November 2024 and consists of six members: Choi, Bang Jee-min, Koko, Mai, Ryu Sa-rang and Jeong Sae-bi.
The group’s third and latest EP, “Set the Tempo,” comes nine months after its previous album and features five songs: the lead track “Metronome” and B-sides “R.I.P.,” “Infinity,” “Rock, Paper, Scissors” and “Lean On Me.”
The lead single, “Metronome,” is an addictive deep house track that Jeong described as “a song that carries the journey of us finding our own faith amid chaotic emotions and chaos.”
Bang and Ryu are credited with writing lyrics for the B-side “Infinity.”

“We wrote the lyrics with messages we wanted to tell our fans, Naya,” Bang said. “So we poured more sincerity into the song and feel more attached to it.”
The girl group described izna’s idea of being oneself — which has long been central to its identity — as refusing to be swayed by outside standards.
“We’ve always talked about upbeat confidence and taking the initiative,” Bang said. “In our debut EP, we talked about how we wanted to challenge the world, then we broke the frame of being pretty in the second EP. And this time, we talk about how we want to have our own standards, rather than being swayed by the world’s standards.”
