Girl group ITZY's upcoming EP 'Motto' is a direct love letter to its fans
ITZY's 12th EP “Motto,” set to release on Monday, is a direct love letter to the fans who have been by the girl group's side for seven years, according to Yeji.
“[With] 'Motto,' I wanted to thank Midzy for staying with us, for being the biggest part of who we are, and show that [they] are our motto,” the group's leader said on Monday, ahead of the EP's release. Midzy is the collective name for ITZY fans.
“I get to think of Midzy and the other ITZY members every time I listen to the song; I'm glad to have a lead track that represents the bond between us,” Yeiji added.
“Motto” comes six months after the release of ITZY's 11th EP, “Tunnel Vision,” last November.
The upcoming album features the titular lead track “Motto,” followed by “Glitch” and “you And I.” It also includes the members' solo songs — Yeiji's “Pocket,” Lia's “Asylum,” Ryujin's “Look,” Chaeryeong's “Undefined” and Yuna's “Tangerine” — all from the ongoing “Tunnel Vision” world tour.
With “Motto,” ITZY hopes that fans will begin to trust themselves in the same way the members did with the support of Midzy.
“I hope the message of 'I choose myself,' instead of doubting yourself in everyday situations, gets relayed to the listeners,” Lia said. “I personally have gotten better with marching forward by trusting myself and my motto.”
“As I prepared for 'Motto,' I had the chance to look back at the past seven years,” Yuna said. “And I could really feel that Midzy was at the center of my journey. They helped me make the right decisions, [acting] like a lighthouse.”
Chaeryeong also mentioned its ongoing “Tunnel Vision” world tour.
ITZY kicked off the tour in Seoul in February. The group has performed in Australia and Japan and is expected to continue the tour in Hong Kong on June 29, followed by performances in Taiwan, Thailand and the Philippines.
“I would say that ITZY's world tour performances are 'undefined,' meaning that you should come and see for yourself how you feel,” she said.
