AIBIX lab, a local company specializing in Generative Engine Optimization and AI performance benchmarking, unveiled a new 100-point “AI Brand Index” on Tuesday that measures how often and how favorably brands appear in the answers of generative AI chatbots such as ChatGPT.
The index, called AIBIX for short, is built by running the same set of consumer-style questions — without naming any brand — repeatedly across AI models ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Perplexity. The company then measures how often each brand appears and what share of total mentions it captures before combining the results into a single score out of 100.
The company's first rankings, covering 30 food and beverage categories such as instant noodles, beverages, alcohol and dining, are set for release in early August. AIBIX lab plans to expand into beauty and home appliances afterward.
In preliminary testing conducted ahead of the launch, instant rice brand Hetbahn, ramyeon brand Shin Ramyun and probiotic brand Lacto-Fit ranked first across all four AI models. But the company also found cases in which prominent offline brands did not appear at all in AI responses, while private-label products outranked name-brand manufacturers in some subcategories.
Scores for the same brand also varied significantly depending on which AI model was queried — one probiotics brand showed a 45.1-point gap between the highest- and lowest-scoring engines.
The company added that the AIBIX scores do not reflect product quality, consumer preference, market share or purchase recommendations, though it plans to track whether AI visibility correlates with sales over time.
“In the past, the key to success on portal sites such as Naver was ranking high in search results. With generative AI, however, the new competitive edge lies in how often a brand is cited and mentioned in AI-generated responses,” said AIBIX lab CEO Kim Joon-hyeon in a press release. “We will objectively measure what has until now been the intuitively assessed 'AI competitiveness' of brands using data, enabling companies to accurately determine where their brands stand in the AI landscape.”
