Science Ministry launches public-private initiative on AI data centers

The ministry has formed a platform to speed the development of massive centers and expand exports of related technologies.

The Ministry of Science and ICT launched an alliance on Wednesday aimed at promoting public-private cooperation on massive AI data centers.

The platform is part of efforts to swiftly carry through on the government's "three megaprojects" initiative announced in June, which includes the construction of a massive AI data center of 18.4-gigawatt capacity.

The platform will support the entire value chain of AI data centers, from cloud technology, energy supply and cooling solutions to regulatory efforts needed to further foster the AI data center ecosystem, the ministry said.

It will also include a special task force aimed at devising strategies to export Korea's AI data center technologies to major countries, such as the United Arab Emirates, the ministry added.

A launch ceremony for the public-private platform was held in central Seoul and attended by some 400 participants from private companies, the government and academia.
