KT will expand its multilingual AI translation service at its branches to aid foreign customers, the company announced on Monday.

KT, which has been piloting the translation service at three branches — in Ansan and Suwon in Gyeonggi and Hyehwa neighborhood in Jongno District, central Seoul — since March, will expand the service to more branches throughout June.

The AI translation service supports about 20 languages, including English, Chinese, Thai and Vietnamese. Customers can use the service at KT stores to inquire about mobile plans, value-added services and KT membership benefits.

KT said that it will analyze customer inquiries by language and use the data to improve store operations and tailor mobile plan benefits for foreign customers.

The company also plans to integrate the AI translation service into its mobile app, allowing foreign customers to find information about their mobile plan, data usage and membership benefits in the language of their choice without needing to visit a store.

"The multilingual AI translator is an on-site AI service that improves the consultation experience for foreign customers visiting [our] stores while enhancing staff efficiency," said Kwon Hee-geun, the head of the sales team in KT's customer division. "We will continue expanding our AI services that customers can use in their daily lives to improve their experience."
