A Korean Earth-observation satellite is set to be launched in the United States in July, the Korea Aerospace Administration (KASA) said Thursday.

The next-generation medium satellite No. 4 will be launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in Santa Barbara County, California.

Korea plans to use the satellite for agricultural monitoring and forest resource observation, the space agency added.

KASA and other related institutions held a meeting at the Korea Aerospace Industries headquarters in Sacheon, South Gyeongsang, to check the satellite before it is moved to the launch site starting next month.

The satellite is the fourth of its kind developed under the government-led initiative to standardize a versatile 500-kilogram (1,102-pound) Earth-observation platform.
