Korea has signed an agreement with Finland to bolster exchanges in statistics using AI, the Ministry of Data and Statistics said Thursday.

The Data Ministry said its delegation signed a memorandum of understanding with its Finnish counterpart in Helsinki on Tuesday.

"The two organizations shared a consensus on the need to pursue innovation in data governance and statistical production systems in response to the spread of AI technology and growing demand for data-driven policies," the ministry said in a release.

Korea and Finland agreed to exchange experience and knowledge in statistics and to hold bilateral meetings and academic seminars to strengthen cooperation.

"Statistics Finland is one of the world's leading organizations in utilizing statistics and administrative data," the ministry said.

Markus Sovala, director general of Statistics Finland, also expressed hope for closer bilateral cooperation, noting South Korea has extensive experience and capabilities in advancing statistics through AI technologies, according to the ministry.
