Commemorative postage stamp honoring esports legend Faker to be released in October

A commemorative postage stamp honoring the esports legend Lee Sang-hyeok, known as Faker, will be released in October, the Korea Post announced on Monday.

The Korea Post issues commemorative post stamps to honor historically significant figures, events and occasions, as well as to promote national projects and foster public sentiment.

The stamp of Faker was newly added to this year’s commemorative stamps list through this announcement.

A total of 17 commemorative post stamps are set to be released this year, including those themed after Jeju Island’s Oreum volcano, the children’s animation character “Princess Catch! Teenieping,” the KBO League and the 150th anniversary of the birth of independent activist Baekbeom Kim Gu (1876-1949).

Since debuting as a professional gamer in 2013, Faker has been with the esports team T1 for 13 years. He has won six total League of Legends World Championship titles, including three consecutive victories.

Faker was awarded a Cheongnyong-class Order of Sport Merit — the country’s highest sports honor — in January. He is the first esports player to receive the Cheongnyong honor.
