Matica Biotechnology, the U.S. subsidiary of CHA Biotech, launched a new manufacturing platform aimed at making gene therapy development faster and more flexible for biotechnology companies.

Cirsium Biosciences, a California-based biotechnology company, is the first client to join the contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) platform, CHA Biotech announced Wednesday.

“Joining the Matica Open Access Platform is a natural extension of our mission and manufacturing model,” said Dr. Daniel Gibbs, CEO of Cirsium Biosciences.

“We founded Cirsium on the belief that the future of gene therapy depends on making production more scalable and accessible. Our platform was designed with that goal in mind, and partnerships like this are central to our progress from vision to reality.”

Matica Open Access Platform aims to address the limitations of traditional CDMO platforms, which have rigid manufacturing processes and limited access to development data.

Matica says the new platform offers clients full control over projects while receiving transparent access to data and ownership of development results. The platform also aims to shorten development timelines and improve collaboration between CDMOs and their clients.

“Cirsium’s vision has always centered on flexibility and speed in adeno-associated virus (AAV) manufacturing,” said Paul Kim, CEO of Matica Biotechnology.

“With the Matica Open Access Platform, we are extending that philosophy further, giving companies the freedom to design their own development journey without being constrained by traditional, closed CDMO models. This is about enabling innovation, not controlling it.”

Cirsium's participation in the platform builds on an agreement the two companies signed in 2025 to develop and manufacture AAV vectors. Under the expanded collaboration, Cirsium's plant-based technology for producing AAV vectors will be combined with Matica's purification and analytical capabilities.

Matica Biotechnology will also showcase the new platform at BIO International Convention 2026, which will be held in San Diego from June 22 to 25.

Founded in 2019, Matica Biotechnology is CHA Biotech’s U.S. subsidiary focused on the cell and gene therapy (CGT) CDMO market. In 2022, it completed construction of a CGT manufacturing facility in College Station, Texas.
