SK Telecom will introduce a wide range of information and communication technologies (ICT) to make a greener earth at the upcoming CES 2023 trade show.

The telecom company will be one of eight SK companies that will have a 1,200-square-meter shared booth at the trade show, which is scheduled to kick off on Jan. 5 in Las Vegas.

A real-size urban air mobility (UAM) simulator will be on display, which SK Telecom has been developing since 2021. SK Telecom has been working on the flying taxi as a part of the K-UAM Dream Team consortium with the Korea Transport Institute and Korea Meteorological Institute, the Korea Airports Corporation.

The company will also introduce Sapeon chips that could help power the flying car. SK hynix earlier in the year established Sapeon, a chip company, with SK Telecom and SK Square. They invested 80 billion won ($61 million) in the chip company in total.

Sapeon chips are low-power graphic processors with improved energy efficiency. Sapeon runs on 80 percent less power than an average graphic processor unit, while its processing speed for deep learning is 1.5 times faster, according to the company.

Sapeon recently released the X220, its first chip, and is expected to introduce its successor, the X300, in 2023.

The telecom company will also introduce the concept of a virtual power plant at its booth, which is a system to manage different types of renewable energies such as solar and wind.

"SK Telecom will introduce green ICT at CES 2023 to achieve the net-zero," the company said in a statement released Monday. "We will contribute to the whole world to join the movement to achieve net zero by promoting our eco-friendly technologies."

LG Electronics's focus for the upcoming show will also be a greener environment.

The home appliances maker said Monday it will open a booth, called Better Life for All, to explain the activities it has been partaking in to achieve environmental, social and governance values.

Various LG home appliances will be introduced, which were made with recycled materials that were extracted from its Chilseo Recycling Center in Haman County, South Gyeongsang. First built in 2001, LG has been recycling some 70 types of used home appliances at the center to extract 40 different types of raw materials.

The company will also introduce its unique technologies to recycle styrofoam.

By 2030, LG Electronics aims to reduce its greenhouse emissions by 50 percent compared to the amount it emitted in 2017.

"We will make visitors from around the world know what challenges LG Electronics has been doing to make a better life for all, and the plans we have for the future of earth and humans," said Lee Jeong-seok, head of LG Electronics' Global Marketing Center.
